International NGO – Train the trainer programme

This client’s requirement was for a series of comprehensive Train the Trainer workshops to train their programme leaders in running internal programmes for their overseas partners. As a charitable organisation their budget was tight. They needed to provide support for their trainers in structuring their sessions, developing techniques to engage their audiences, tips on using visual aids, ideas for interactive exercises and delivering a memorable session for their global clients.

Our solution:

  • We offered a 2-day programme on client’s site
  • We provided the client with pre-course work
  • The programme included structuring a session, using ice-breakers, audience engagement techniques, understanding group dynamics, dealing with difficult people, use of body language and enhancing your personal style and presence and cultural etiquette for global audiences.
  • We propose to use a trainer assessment model, enabling to set expectations and critically assess performance.
  • We were able to custom- brand existing material and passed this cost saving on to the client
  • We offered to review and provide feedback and tips to improve the content and structure of their existing programmes

The outcomes:

  • Feedback from the client included: “Hugely interactive and practical, the trainer role-modelled best practice throughout. She gave away her trade secrets!”
  • Trainers were assessed using a trainer-assessment model giving each participant a standard to adhere to for future sessions – this enabled the client to follow up in performance in the future
  • Each trainer was given written, recorded verbal and peer feedback from the course
  • Our consultant gave feedback on the organisation’s training materials and how to make their sessions more interactive
  • Delegates went on to deliver training sessions to their global partnering NGOs in Africa, South East Asia and South Asia and received extremely positive feedback
