Selection Interviewing Skills

We’ve designed a programme to develop the skills of the selection interviewer. In today’s competitive market, recruitment presents an on-going challenge for organisations. Attracting and selecting the right candidate is fundamental for future success. The cost of the wrong recruitment decision is expensive - in terms of both time and money. This workshop uses competency-based interviewing to draw out the skills, experiences and behaviours of prospective candidates required to do the job. We’ve designed it to meet the assumptions and challenges of the interview situation and give delegates opportunity to practice.

Topics include:

  • Preparing for the interview - creating the picture of what you are looking for
  • Defining and creating a job purpose, job description and a person specification
  • The difference between “essential” and “desirable” when forming a person specification
  • Exploring question techniques in interviews
  • How to prepare competency-based questions and situational questions
  • Preparing the venue - how to get the room layout and timings right
  • How to build rapport and relax the candidate
  • Structuring an interview
  • The legal framework - what you can and can’t ask in an interview
  • Practise interviewing
